Establishing a common understanding of the essential Grid technologies: Trust and security

This horizontal activity aims at increasing the awareness of the Network's members to the use of the technology associated with trust and security. This task will provide, on a durable basis, survey material summarising work carried out outside CoreGRID and so provide advice to CoreGRID work packages on security implications of their developments and help elucidate their security requirements. It will also disseminate this activity via a Web portal in order to provide a sustainable communication forum about trust and security issues for the Network's members. This task will further tackle the following topics:

1. Integration. Coordinate the security work carried out within the CoreGRID Virtual Institutes in order to exploit synergies and identity potential collaboration among the Network members.
  • Organise a trust & security session in the annual Integration Workshop.

2. Awareness. Provide survey material summarising work carried out outside CoreGRID and so provide advice to CoreGRID work packages on security.
  • Provide tutorials at CoreGRID Events in order to ensure uptake of appropriate developments in technology.
  • Identify individuals who have relevant expertise and invite them to participate in the appropriate workshops organised by CoreGRID.

3. Outreach. Communicate CoreGRID results in trust and security to the wider Grid community.
  • Represent CoreGRID at relevant externally organised events.
  • Provide a Web portal to provide a communications forum for trust and security issues.
  • Liaise with international standards organisations that are providing solutions to the trust and security for the Grid.
  • Promote collaboration between CoreGRID members and external security projects. As security is a core structural aspect of Grid systems, these activities are related to all work packages and will strengthen the integration across the whole project.
