Scilab ProActive GRID Toolbox
Job : Associated engineers
Location : Paris
Recruiting date : October 2007
Duration : 2 years, possible extension in a start up high-tech INRIA company.
Grid computing is becoming a crucial aspect of scientific computing. Major scientific environments now offer Grid related packages (e.g. Matlab Distributed Computing Engine). The overall goal of this ODL is to equip Scilab with generic, portable, and perennial Grid interfaces, using the ProActive ObjectWeb Open Source middleware. Both Enterprise and large scale Grids will be targetted.
This extension has to allow the deployment of Scilab instances on several nodes of the grid (and to use these instances like computing engines) and the submital of Scilab tasks over the grid. These Scilab engines are monitored by a central ProActive API. A natural condition is to deploy an application (based on this
interface) strictly on hosts where the Scilab software is intsalled.

One of the goal is to take advantage of all the standards ProActive is interfaced with (Globus, LSF, PBS, Sun GE, IBM Load Leveler, InnerGrid GridSystem, Unicore, NorduGrid, CGSP China Grid, GridBus, gLite EGEE.), and to make sure that Scilab as a consequence, also support those standards. Also, ProActive features tunneling communications, for the sake of both security and firewall crossing, and File Transfers before and after execution making it possible to send data and to retrieve results. Scilab users will as a consequence also benefits these features. |

Technical experience requested:
- Java programming
- Distributed programming (Java RMI, sockets, J2EE, etc.)
- Scilab, Mathlab, or ProActive a plus. |
