| Job Description |
This position is proposed in the framework of the European Contrail Integrated Project (http://www.contrail-project.eu). Contrail is supported by the FP7 IST Programme. Contrail project aims at designing, implementing, evaluating and promoting an open source system in which resources that belong to different operators are integrated into a single homogeneous Federated Cloud that users can access seamlessly. INRIA is the project coordinator. The consortium is composed of 10 industrial and academic partners from 6 different countries.
The technical manager will be a member of Contrail project office and will work under the responsibility of the project coordinator. Her/his main task will be the technical management of Contrail consortium. She/He will also participate in the research and development activities related to the implementation of a distributed operating system for federations of virtualized infrastructures.
Work description
* Tasks related to technical management
- Organization and coordination of the consortium work to ensure that deliverables are produced in due time
- Monitoring project progress and resource consumption against the planned schedule
- Quality management: definition and implementation of quality management procedures for software development and deliverables
- Risk management: maintain a list of risks and monitor them in collaboration with project coordinator
- Project Indicators: set up and maintain a list of indicators
- Participation in the edition of the annual project management reports
- Participation in the edition of progress reports
- Participation in the update of the work plan – integration of the partners’ contributions
- Participation in the technical management of the workpackages led by INRIA
- Preparation of the agenda for and taking the minutes of the executive committee meetings
- Setting-up and administration of the tools for the internal and external communication and collaborative work within the project (wiki, svn…)
- Setting-up and administration of Contrail project in Gforge (software engineering tools)
- Implementation, under the supervision of the project coordinator, of the decisions of the executive committee
- Assistance to the project coordinator for the preparation of the periodic financial reports
* Research and development
The technical manager will contribute to the design of the software architecture of the distributed system implemented within Contrail project and to the definition of interfaces between the different services composing the system. She/he will monitor the performance evaluation activities of the system and its components. She/he will be in charge of monitoring the progress of software development activities. She/he will contribute to the software integration testing activities and to the test bed management together with the project partners involved in these activities.

| Qualifications |
Profile: Engineering or master degree in computer science + experience or PhD degree in computer science
Required expertise
- Fluent English (read, spoken, written) required. Interviews for this position will be conducted in English. The knowledge of a third language (other than French and English) would be appreciated.
- Ability and liking for team work and relationships
- Rigor, autonomy, organizational skills
- Good writing ability
- Previous experience in project management
- Experience in collaborative software development in a large project
- Very good knowledge in operating systems and distributed systems.
Desired skills and experiences
- Experience with Linux and open source software projects
- A previous experience in a similar position in the context of a European project or in a project with multiple partners
- Knowledge of European project administrative rules
