| Job Description |
The Institute for Computer Science (Distributed and Parallel Systems Group) of the University of Innsbruck, Austria, invites applications for funded research positions for doctoral or postdoctoral students in GRID Computing
The Distributed and Parallel Systems group focuses on simplifying the effective use of multiprocessor architectures and geographically distributed, heterogeneous resources (Grid), which will provide the basis for the next generation of Internet-enabled performance oriented applications.

The Distributed and Parallel Systems group currently participates
among others in the following Grid projects:
o EU 6FP Adaptive Services Grid
o EU 6FP K-WF Grid
o EU 6FP EGEE 2
o EU 6FP Edutain@Grid
o SFB Aurora
o Austrian Grid
Note the working and research language of the distributed and parallel
systems group is English. There is no need to learn German for the
above mentioned positions.
The City of Innsbruck, which hosted the olympic winter games twice,
is located in the beautiful surroundings of the Tyrolean Alps. The
combination of the Alpine environment and the urban life in this
historically grown town provides a high quality of living. The
university has a long tradition dating back to the 16th century,
and, with seven schools (Theology, Law, Economics and Social
Sciences, Medicine, Humanities, Natural Sciences, Civil Engineering
and Architecture), it offers a wide spectrum of research and teaching
activities and interesting opportunities for interdisciplinary
collaboration.

| Qualifications |
Candidates who are knowledgeable in distributed and parallel computing and interested in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply:
o scheduling for Grid workflow applications
o runtime environments for the Grid
o SLA, QoS negotiation and business models for the Grid
o resource management and provision for the Grid
o massively multiplayer online games
Doctoral applicants must hold a master or equivalent degree in computer science or computer engineering and are expected to contribute to research.
Language skills: The entire Phd program including all graduate courses is based on English only. |
