Job Description Purpose: To assume a key role in the EDGeS project to connect
computational and desktop Grids, to migrate legacy
code applications to these Grids, and to install and
manage computational and desktop Grids at the Centre
of Parallel Computing.

Principal Accountabilities:
To carry out substantial research and development to
connect computational and desktop Grids, implement
technical solutions that manage legacy code applications
in these Grids as directed by the EDGeS Project
Co-ordinator

Context: The person appointed is expected to carry out high
quality research and development work, as required by
the EDGeS team, attend all team meetings, and
produce high quality documentation and technical
reports

Dimension: The researcher appointed will do research in the area
of Grid computing, particularly in computational and
desktop Grids, design and implement technical
solutions required for migrating legacy code
applications to the Grid and contribute to the
management of the computing infrastructure of the
Centre of Parallel Computing.

Training and Experience:
Good knowledge and working experience of C and Java
programming languages, Linux and/or Unix operating
system, and familiar with system administration and in
addition, knowledge and experience of some of the
following areas is highly desirable:
- Grid computing,
- J2EE platform,
- XML & Web Services.
Qualifications BSc. or MSc. degree (but the latter is preferred) in Computer Science or Information Technology or related subject is required
Compensation 24.000 – 26.000 GBP/year
