| Job Description |
The storage system group from the computer science department at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center searches for an engineer willing to work, during the next two years, on the implementation of XtreemFS a distributed file system that is part of XtreemOS a grid operating system. Among the tasks the candidate is expected to perform we highlight:
� Implement a mechanism to detect which storage devices are closer to a given client
� Implement the integration of cluster file systems such as kDFS (from Linux SSI) into XtreemFS
� Implement the exportation of local files to the grid file system
� Decide, according to a set of rules, the best distribution for a given file and/or replica among the different available storage systems
� Implement write off-loading when a storage device is too loaded for writing
� Help in the integration of other components being developed within the group into XtreemFS
This work will be developed in the storage system research group at BSC and in cooperation with the XtreemOS consortium (19 partners from Europe and China).

| Qualifications |
We are searching for a candidate with following profile:
� University degree on computer science (or related topic). Candidates that expect to have it before the summer 2008 will also be considered.
� Basic knowledge in file systems and in operating systems in general
� Experience in Java programming
� Knowledge of the English language to participate in discussions about technical topics
� Willingness to travel around 4 times a year
The following skills will also be evaluated (although are not compulsory)
� Knowledge of distributed systems
� Knowledge in peer-to-peer data management
